Local by default.
Cloud minutes when you need them.
The core local dictation and cleanup workflow is free indefinitely on supported Macs. TypeFree Cloud minutes apply only when you choose Cloud for low-memory Macs, travel, or speed. Upgrade for more cloud time, a larger dictionary, Audio Import, custom prompts, and explicit model control for professional writing.
Local-first when possible. Cloud fallback when practical.
TypeFree is built for Apple Silicon because local dictation and cleanup need unified memory, modern Apple ML acceleration, and macOS 26 APIs. Lower-memory Macs can still use TypeFree Cloud, so the first-run experience does not depend on owning the biggest machine.
Native speech, Apple Intelligence, and modern security APIs only exist on the new OS line.
TypeFree On-Device ASR and cleanup run locally on M-series Macs when memory is available.
8 GB Macs can lean on TypeFree Cloud. 16 GB+ is better for local everyday use; 24 GB+ is best for larger local models and long sessions.

What counts as a TypeFree Cloud minute?
Cloud minutes are based on the duration of audio processed by TypeFree Cloud. Local TypeFree On-Device dictation and cleanup do not spend cloud minutes. When Cloud runs out, the app offers Buy credit, Wait for reset, or Switch to On-Device when your hardware and local models are ready. Paid users can buy extra cloud credits starting at $5 with no expiry.
- • Unlimited local TypeFree On-Device dictation and cleanup where your Mac supports it
- • 100 TypeFree Cloud minutes/month for low-memory Macs, travel, or faster fallback
- • Personal dictionary up to 500 names / brands / jargon terms
- • Daily cloud fallback without thinking about it
- • Comfortable for low-memory Macs
- • Good fit for normal workday dictation
- • Heavy dictation, travel, and file import
- • Room for long interviews or client calls
- • BYOK/self-hosted routes when policy requires it
Your personal dictionary scales with your tier.
TypeFree quietly learns the proper nouns you use — your client's name, your product SKU, your project codename — and starts spelling them correctly without you ever opening a settings panel. The bigger your tier, the more terms it remembers. Once full, the oldest unused entries get dropped to make room for new ones.
- • ≈ Your immediate family + close colleagues
- • ≈ Names of the apps and products you use daily
- • ≈ A handful of project codenames
- • ≈ Years of client and prospect names
- • ≈ Product SKUs across multiple lines
- • ≈ Industry jargon for one or two specialties
- • ≈ Effectively unlimited for a single human's career
- • ≈ Drop a 5,000-term glossary in, never run out
- • ≈ Decades of case names, drug names, character names
Numbers are entries (one per unique word). The same name said 100 times still counts as one entry. Recognition quality is not intentionally degraded by tier — the difference is how much cloud fallback, workflow control, and long-tail vocabulary TypeFree keeps available for you.

+Is there a trial of Standard or Pro?
No — the Free tier is the trial that does not expire. It includes unlimited local dictation and cleanup where supported, the same built-in cleanup styles, and 100 TypeFree Cloud minutes each month only for Cloud use. Upgrade only when you need more cloud time, a larger dictionary, custom cleanup prompts, or Audio Import.
+What happens when I run out of TypeFree Cloud minutes?
The app shows three choices: buy top-up credit, wait for the monthly reset, or switch to On-Device when this Mac has enough memory and the local models are ready. Local dictation remains free where supported.
+What's the personal dictionary, and what happens when it's full?
Every time TypeFree cleans up a dictation it remembers proper nouns and technical terms — your colleagues' names, your product names, your industry jargon — so they get spelled correctly next time without you uploading a glossary. Free fits 500 terms, Standard 2,000, Pro 15,000. When the dictionary fills up, the lowest-ranked entry (least-used + least-recent) is dropped to make room. Pro caps at a size most professionals never reach in a career.
+Does a bigger dictionary make recognition slower or more expensive?
No. Every recording uses a bounded slice of your dictionary at recognition time. The bigger Pro number is about how much long-tail vocabulary stays available for retrieval, not sending every saved word on every request. Pro is bigger memory and more workflow control, not a secretly different accuracy tier.
+Is TypeFree Cloud the default?
No. Local on-device dictation and cleanup remain the default path where the Mac can run them well. TypeFree Cloud is a visible choice for low-memory Macs, faster processing, travel, or moments when you choose cloud over local.
+Can I switch between monthly and annual?
Yes, via the Stripe Customer Portal in the app's Account panel. Switching to annual prorates immediately; switching from annual to monthly takes effect at the next renewal.
+Refunds?
Annual subscriptions: pro-rated refund within 30 days of renewal, on request. Monthly: not refundable, but cancel any time and the rest of the period is yours.
+Is there a team / company plan?
Not yet. If you want bulk licensing for a team, email us and we'll figure something out.
+Where does my money go?
Stripe takes about 3%. The rest pays for signed app distribution, updates, licensing infrastructure, TypeFree Cloud minutes, on-device model integration, support, and the small team building TypeFree.
